<image:title>About Me - Eric Stern is a 25-year old pianist, composer, educator, and arranger who makes “keyboarding more like surfboarding, wave after wave at breakneck speed. Every solo is a show unto itself" (BroadwayWorld). Eric’s ability to command almost any style of music fluently, while staying authentic and true to the music, has allowed Eric to quickly establish himself as a rising star in New York City. Currently, Eric leads a band every month at Terraza 7, Eric Stern’s Cuban Jazz Project. A vibrant fusion of Cuban Timba and American Jazz, this trio blends infectious dance rhythms with bold improvisation and harmonic depth, creating a fresh sound that honors both traditions while pushing them forward. The Project also had the opportunity to headline at Saint Peter’s Church (the Jazz Vespers) in early November of 2025 for the Dia de los Muertos Celebration. The group aims to release a debut record by the end of 2027. Additionally, Eric has been playing as a sideman with many notable artists in New York City in latin jazz and salsa. Most notable is Grammy-winning bassist John Benitez in the Revolution Sextet, playing regularly at venues such as The National Jazz Museum in Harlem, Ornithology, Terraza 7, and Arthur’s Tavern, at the 2026 Loisada Festival, and at the 2024, 2025, and 2026 Jersey City Latin Jazz Festival. Eric has also played with a few other notable latin jazz luminaries in New York City, including trombonist Juanga Lakunza and Latin Grammy-winner Samuel Torres, the latter at Zinc Bar. Eric is also music directing a new band, the Latin Soul Collective, a latin jazz and salsa band. The group made their debut at Chelsea Table & Stage this past June, and have upcoming performances in Battery Park and Newport in the summer of 2026. Eric also works with Carabali, a mambo-style salsa band founded by legendary pianist Oscar Hernandez. The group performed at La Marqueta last year. Eric is also playing in the 26-year anniversary production of Retumba La Roka, a production which highlights Puerto Rican discourse in modern-day New York City, which presents annually at the Bronx Academy of Theatre and Dance. Eric also leads a Quintet. The Eric Stern Quintet has performed throughout New York City, including two projects at ShapeShifter Lab in Brooklyn: Ravel Meets Jazz and Sam Rivers and More! The former project aims to incorporate the harmonic fearlessness of Maurice Ravel with the intensity and groove of modern jazz, while the latter honored a saxophonist and composer often overlooked in jazz history, Sam Rivers. The Quintet has also performed at Chelsea Table and Stage. Eric has also been playing with Noah Myers’ group Sonder. The group won the 2025 Detroit Collegiate Combo Competition, and a month later played in the 2025 Detroit Jazz Festival, Eric’s first major jazz festival as a performer. Sonder also played at the WAHI Jazz Festival in the fall of 2025. Eric also plays with rising star trumpeter Kellin Hanas, playing at the 2024 Music Mountain Village Festival and 2026 Trumpet Festival of the Southeast with her quintet and quartet, respectively. Eric has shared the stage with legendary drummer Joe Farnsworth, and also has performed with Grammy-winning vocalist Samara Joy, as well as acclaimed vocalists Kate Kortum and Joie Bianco. Eric has also been playing bi-monthly at So&So’s Piano Bar in a solo piano setting. Eric has a growing discography as a sideman as well. In 2023, Eric played on two records, the debut of Kate Kortum, entitled Good Woman, and on a live record from the Frost Jazz Orchestra, Live at Gusman Concert Hall. He is slated to be on the debut of bassist Julian Wittich, which was recorded in December of 2025. The band is set to tour for the album in Asia in the fall of 2026. Eric is also on the upcoming release of John Benitez with Revolution, set to come out soon, as well as trombonist Tim Zettlemoyer’s debut sextet album, recorded in May of 2026. Eric grew up in Brooklyn, New York, studying at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music with various classical and jazz teachers. His passion for jazz began in middle school, and in high school, he got involved in several New York City arts programs, including the Belongó Fat Cats Big Band directed by noteworthy drummer Zack O’Farrill. He also studied privately with Jacob Sacks. In 2019, Eric moved to Miami, Florida to study at the Frost School of Music, University of Miami. While at the Frost School of Music, Stern had the opportunity to study privately with Shelly Berg, Martin Bejerano, Alex Brown, and Gonzalo Rubalcaba, as well as working with GRAMMY-winners Dafnis Prieto, Regina Carter, Terrell Stafford, Dick Oatts, and John Daversa. After graduating from Frost in 2023, Eric returned to NYC to pursue a Masters Degree at the Manhattan School of Music, studying with Ted Rosenthal, Phil Markowitz, Jon Faddis, Nicole Glover, John Benitez, Buster Williams, and others. Eric graduated in 2025 with his Master’s from Manhattan School of Music. Eric has won numerous awards throughout his career, including being a National YoungArts Honorable Mention in 2020, the winner of the Bösendorfer prize at the 2022 American Jazz Pianist Competition, and an attendee of the 2022 JAS Summer Jazz Academy, working with Christian McBride. He also is a 2022 Downbeat Award Winner as the pianist for the Funk Fusion ensemble at the Frost School of Music, directed by Steve Rucker. He is a 2025 Detroit Collegiate Combo Competition Winner. As a teacher, Eric has been a private piano teacher for seven years, mentoring students of all levels, genres, and ages. Eric also works for the Misty Copeland Foundation, accompanying ballet for underserved youth in the Bronx and Harlem, and for Belongó, a foundation dedicated to providing music education for underserved youth throughout New York City. Providing music to youth, and making it accessible for all, is a crucial part of Eric’s mission as an educator, as Eric believes music has the power to change the lives of all young people who experience it.</image:title>
